“August: Osage County” Films In Oklahoma

Bartlesville, Oklahoma is getting a big dose of Celebrity these days, with the movie version of “August: Osage County” underway in the city. (Local residents get giddy here.) Principal filming for the high-profile Hollywood production, which stars Miss Meryl and Miss Julia, began Sept. 24. According to the film’s location manager, the production has been making use of local resources and accommodations and “been spending quite a bit of money in the community.” In addition to these purchases of local goods and services, more than 30 local houses have been rented to accommodate the cast and crew. Over the course of production, expected to last well into November, it is expected that crews associated with the production will also incur approximately 5,000 hotel room nights in the immediate area. There are also dozens of mouths to feed on a daily basis. That means area restaurants and caterers also benefit. “What we do (for a community) is kind of like having a convention for three months,” Joe Guest, the film’s location manager, said in a recent public presentation about the movie’s potential economic impact.
