Broad Art Museum Opens In Michigan

Opened last month, the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, located on the Michigan State University campus, in East Lansing, aims to explore global contemporary culture and ideas through art and to serve as an educational resource for the campus community and a cultural hub for Michigan as a whole. The art gallery is named after MSU alumnus Eli Broad and his wife Edythe, who provided $28m in funding towards the $40m project. Zaha Hadid was chosen to design the complex following a call for architect submissions in 2007. The 46,000 sq ft space features a façade of pleated stainless steel and glass, distinguishing the building from the traditional brick Collegiate Gothic north campus. Inside, a range of galleries will host temporary exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, new media, photography and works on paper.
