“Chicago” Now Third-Longest-Running Show
Today, “Chicago” becomes the third-longest-running show in Broadway history, surpassing “Les Miz.” These milestones usually depress me, because they usually involve shows I don’t love (“Phantom,” “Cats”). But I’m thrilled that the Kander & Ebb tale of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly keeps going on and on. Somewhere in hoofer heaven, Gwen Verdon, who starred in the musical originally, in 1975, is rat-a-tat-tapping her delight.
