MOMA: When Abstract Art Took Form

A hundred years ago in Paris, fine art moved beyond just figures. Now, “Inventing Abstraction: 1910-1925,” opens on Sunday at the Museum of Modern Art. I’ve seen the exhibition, and it does capture something of the movement’s original thrill and terror. The work on display shows us artists embracing worldliness and, in some cases, withdrawing into mystical purity. I could have done without all the mysticism, but the visual results can be stunning.
