Kennedy Center Honors To Air Tonight

Tonight’s Kennedy Center Honors program, on CBS, is a taped version of the Dec. 2 ceremony at the Kennedy Center in Washington that honored Dustin Hoffman, Buddy Guy, David Letterman, Natalia Makarova and Led Zeppelin. Caroline Kennedy starts the evening off by quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson’s invitation to “congratulate yourself if you have done something strange and extravagant and broken the monotony of a decorous age.” Things apparently move downhill from that lofty peak, reaching a nadir with Tina Fey‘s roast of Mr. Letterman. Still, the broadcast is a “quality” alternative to most of what’s on TV right at the moment.
