Your Weekend: LemonWade Recommends

Movies: I thought the Dustin Hoffman-directed “Quartet,” starring Herself (Maggie Smith), was supposed to open in New York this weekend: nope, we have to wait two more weeks. So it’s just holiday leftovers, among which I recommend the sweet-and-serious “Silver Linings Playbook” and the serious “Amour.” Television: Friday brings a PBS documentary about the Joffrey Ballet. Sunday finds a “Call the Midwife” holiday episode. Music: The “Les Miz” soundtrack is the top-selling CD on Amazon. You’re not surprised, I hope. The will.i.am and Britney Spears single, “Scream & Shout,” makes me wanna scream & shout, and not in a pleasant way. Books: There’s good reason why “Bring Up The Bodies,” Hilary Mantel’s novel about the fall of Anne Boleyn, is atop the year-end Best Books lists: it’s terrific! Sports: Watching the Seahawks’ QB, Russell Wilson, is big fun, but does his roasting-hot team have the poise to make it past round one of the playoffs? Finally: Even the kids in my family are starting to prefer spending New Year’s Eve at home. And you?
