From Rembrandt to Degas, learn from the masters about the pleasures and perils of the demon drink this New Year’s Eve. Pictured is a detail from Édouard Manet’s “A Bar at the Folies-Bergère,” 1882. I wouldn’t know about those perils: except for last year’s aberration (I was in rockin’ Times Square for the countdown), I spend the evening at home, in bed, watching a favorite movie.
