Should You Watch Docu On The Eagles?

Unless you’re a diehard, you might need or want to watch only the first of this two-part (the conclusion airs tomorrow night), three-hour documentary from Showtime on the Eagles, which takes you through to the band’s breakup. There’s a lot of good footage early on of ’70s L.A., the folk-rock singer-songwriter scene, and how Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and the rest created a hit sound. But don’t look, among interviews old and new, for much that addresses the wild excesses of the era or probes the band’s internal conflicts very candidly: This doc, directed by Alison Ellwood and produced by Oscar winner Alex Gibney, wants you left with a peaceful, easy feeling.
