Putin Admits Tchaikovsky Was Gay

In the course of trying to reassure the world that gay people headed for the upcoming Sochi Olympics will be safe and secure while in Russia, the country’s President, Vladimir Putin, said: ‘“Tchaikovsky was a homosexual. Truth be told, we don’t love him because of that, but he was a great musician, and we all love his music. So what?” Since the official Russian and Soviet position on the composer hasn’t exactly been truthful over the years, I guess Putin’s statement is progress of sorts. As for his assurances about Sochi, he’s missed the point: the point is that the harsh laws in the country affect Russian gays, not just visitors.
