“Hustle” And “Gravity” Lead Oscar Noms

The nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards were held today, with the ceremony taking place on March 2nd. As expected,”American Hustle” led the way with 10 noms, including noms in all four acting categories. “Gravity” (10 noms) also had 10 and “12 Years A Slave,” with 9 noms, also showed strength. The biggest snubs were of Robert Redford (“All Is Lost” — truly!), Tom Hanks (for neither “Captain Phillips” nor “Saving Mr Banks”), and Emma Thompson (“Saving Mr. Banks”), who campaigned the past three months as if her life depended on it — to no avail. “The Butler” was also shut out, including the performance of Miss Oprah Winfrey. Best news of all: “Dallas Buyers Club,” a relatively small feature, got six nominations. Don’t be surprised if both its main actors, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, win Oscars in March.
