“Klondike” Finds Ratings Gold

Discovery kicked off its six-hour “Klondike” miniseries on Monday night, averaging 3.4 million viewers over the course of the first two installments. The three-night project clearly was inspired by History’s gangbuster performance by “Hatfields & McCoys” in 2012. History has been superb at cooking up series — also “The Vikings” — that appeal in a shoot-’em-up way to older guys. I watched the first installment of “Klondike” (it concludes tonight) and found it more engaging than I expected. The story centers on the friendship of two adventurers, Bill Haskell and Byron Epstein, as they travel North West during the Klondike Gold Rush. Jack London — I will watch anything with Jack London — also makes an appearance.
