“Bridges Of Madison County” Opens

“Bridges of Madison County,” familiar to readers of commercial fiction and viewers of Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood‘s movie version, opened in musical form last night on Broadway. Familiarity with the production’s director, Bartlett Sher, prevents me from writing a proper review. But I can say that I was very touched by the show’s handling of the story: Italian war bride living on an Iowa farm. I was greatly admiring of Jason Robert Brown’s score, which has tremendous variety, and of all the performers, led by the luscious-voiced Kelli O’Hara and the powerful Steven Pasquale. Sher’s staging is impeccable. Read the roundup of reviews here.
