Denzel To Star In “Magnificent Seven”?

Denzel Washington, who was noticeably absent from the Tonys last night, when his show, “A Raisin in the Sun,” was amply rewarded, is reportedly in talks with MGM to star in an Antoine Fuqua-directed remake of John Sturges‘ “The Magnificent Seven” (1960), itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa‘s “Seven Samurai” (1954). Denzel would presumably play Yul Brynner‘s gunslinger character, a.k.a. “Chris.” Decent idea, methinks. You could get a lot of top talent to sign up to the remake — maybe even some of the high rollers who did the remake of “Ocean’s Seven”: seven is a lucky number, isn’t it?
