Your Weekend: A Selective Guide

Movies: If you’re into crass, try “Transformers: Age of Extinction.” If you’re into class, I suggest “Yves Saint Laurent.” Television: Why is PBS’s “Great Performances” bothering to broadcast the Zeffirelli production of “La Boheme” (Friday) without first-rate singers? On Sunday, HBO debuts a series, “The Leftovers,” but it doesn’t sound like my kind of downer. Music: The “Jersey Boys” movie may not be a smash, but the related movie CD plus a “Very Best of Frankie Valli” album are selling. Books: “Blood Feud: The Clintons vs. The Obamas” looks like typical Edward Klein sensationalism. Sports: I’m over-saturated with the World Cup right now, especially on Facebook. Finally: New York celebrates Gay Pride this Sunday. Isn’t it about time the event is renamed to nix that very-1970s word “pride”?
