Move Over, Oprah: Shonda’s Queen Now
Yeah, yeah, I know that Oprah has the money: a fortune of $3 billion, according to Forbes’ latest list of the richest 400 people in America. But, honey, Shonda Rhimes has displaced Oprah as the Black Queen of Television. Rhimes’ now has three hit prime-time shows — “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal,” and “How To Get Away With Murder,” a murderer’s row of power on Thursday nights. The programs on Oprah’s network, OWN, have barely any eyeballs. But Oprah and Shonda aren’t rivals (hah!). See how lovey-dovey they were this week at Harvard, where each received a W.E.B. Dubois medal. Think Gayle King is jealous?
