Matisse Cut-Outs At MOMA: Joyous

Jason Farago had the privilege of seeing the exhibition of Matisse cut-outs at both the Tate Modern in London and again at MOMA in New York, where it has just opened. Thus he can say that the version in NYC in not as “powerful.” Having not had the privilege of seeing the show in London, I can tell you that I found this assembly of work to be absolutely wonderful. I’m not always the biggest fan of MOMA, either in how it programs its galleries nor in in the way work is displayed. But the Matisse is beautifully there. Even if you’ve seen the cut-outs before, I assure you there are some here you’ve never glimpsed. Go!
