Happy Anniversary: Madonna, Warren & Dick!


The 25th anniversary of Warren Beatty‘s “Dick Tracy” is upon us, the commercially underwhelming Disney release having opened on 6.15.90. The movie’s Blu-Ray reminds me why I retain an affection for the picture: 1) The glorious visual concept — Vittorio Storaro‘s cinematography, the partly animated production design, the grotesque but groundbreaking makeup; 2) The delightfully over-the-top performances, particularly Al Pacino as Big Boy Caprice and Dustin Hoffman as Mumbles); and 3) Madonna singing Sondheim.
