Hooray! Julie To Direct “My Fair Lady”

Julie Andrews — the original stage version of Eliza Doolittle — is set to direct a new production of “My Fair Lady” next year at the Sydney Opera House. The actress said in a statement that she was thrilled to have been asked to direct the production. “I look forward to coming to Sydney this November to cast the production and begin the process of bringing this great musical to life once again,” she added. Andrews, 79, played the leading role in the show’s 1956 Broadway production, with Rex Harrison as Professor Henry Higgins. It was her second Broadway role, and one that helped launch her career. Audrey Hepburn then played Eliza in the 1964 film adaptation, also opposite Harrison. Now when the hell can we get “My Fair Lady” back on Broadway?
