Want to party at a New York nightclub? Try a night match at Arthur Ashe Stadium instead. A new addition at the U.S. Open this year is a flashy lighting scheme that amps up the drama as players walk onto Ashe: The stadium goes dark—then turns into a would-be rave as colorful, roving spotlights slice through the air. The only thing missing is a disco ball. “It turns the stadium into an indoor arena,†said Dieter Ruehle, the DJ for the U.S. Open. Music accompanies the moment, and players are invited to request songs they want to hear during their walk-on or the warm-up period. Ruehle said Serena Williams put in a request for the tune that has swept the Internet with its own catchy dance craze: “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)†by Silentó. No. 1 men’s seed Novak Djokovic — no stranger to an impromptu dance party — is a fan of the Swedish electro-pop duo Galantis and its explosively fun take on EDM, “Peanut Butter Jelly.â€
