The American Theatre Wing‘s “Working in the Theatre” video series visited Marie’s Crisis, a bar where theatre lovers gather around the piano every evening and sing their favorite show tunes. Located just across Seventh Avenue from Sheridan Square in New York’s Greenwich Village (reputedly on the spot where Founding Father Thomas Paine died: he’s been rolling ever since he heard “And I Am Telling You” there for the first time), the piano bar “has spent the last four decades as an oasis for the musical theatre lover. Whether it’s Gershwin, Loesser, Menken or Brown, gather around the bar and belt out your favorite Broadway standard.
