Should NBC Drop Trump From “SNL”?

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus certainly thinks so. The caucus became the latest major Latino group to condemn NBCUniversal for inviting Donald Trump to guest host the this Saturday’s episode of “Saturday Night Live.” Two-thirds of the CHC’s 26 members voted in favor of issuing a statement Monday asking NBCUniversal to rescind Trump’s invitation to host “SNL,” arguing that his appearance on the comedy show would legitimize the billionaire’s characterization of Mexican immigrants as “rapists” who are “bringing drugs” and “bringing crime” to the U.S. I don’t see why NBC should capitulate: the network is in the ratings game, every bit as much as Fox News and CNN are in the ratings game. Trump will bring ratings, no question. He might even land a joke or two. Yes, it’s free air time, but so is every Hillary appearance on Colbert or Fallon. Most of the time, I think Trump is a joke, so let’s lighten up and let him tell a few on “SNL.” And if you don’t approve of his appearance, then don’t watch!
