Bartoli And Villazon: Did They Fart In Church?

You might think so after reading this review of their concert the other night in London. The Telegraph’s reviewer says: ‘Cecilia Bartoli and Rolando Villazón were back in town to serve up a selection of arias and duets by Mozart, Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti. But a concert that in prospect looked like a sure-fire Christmas cracker, bursting with goodies and novelties, spluttered out its contents in damp anti-climax, leaving a slightly unpleasant smell in the air. The net effect was positively embarrassing. Neither singer is in their vocal prime, and both of them lean heavily on the projection of personality and presence. Bartoli is about to turn 50 and her once richly beautiful mezzo-soprano has become worn and threadbare.’ For evidence of Bartoli in happier vocal times, listen to the video above.
