Bette Midler To Star In “Hello, Dolly!”

Somewhere in southern California, an almost-95-year-old Carol Channing is saying, “She won’t be as good as me!” Yes, it’s true: Miss Midler will be Dolly Levi on Broadway in the spring of 2017. Jerry Zaks will direct and Scott Rudin will produce. Bette is a good choice for the role: she can do the singing and she can do the comedy. And she will sell tickets. The show’s creator, Jerry Herman, says, “Only Bette could bring Dolly brilliantly back to the ‘lights of 14th Street.'” Now if Cher can come to Broadway in another Herman show, “Mame,” I can die happy.
