Grammys: I Disagree With These Grades

The performances that EW says were the best were those I thought not-so-hot. (The broadcast was endless: like the Oscars, it could use shortening.) The number of Kendrick Lamar (pictured) was just noise to me, Adele was poorly lighted and had to suffer an audio glitch, and the “Hamilton” segment, though passionately performed, did not sell the show itself terribly well: they opted for an “introduce the characters” approach rather than choosing the song that would have worked best on TV. Yes, I know that many “Hamilton” numbers wouldn’t have worked well out-of-context. But “My Shot,” in my humble opinion, would have been more exciting. My favorite numbers: the 12-year-old jazz pianist, Joey Alexander, and Lady Gaga doing a Bowie tribute.
