NY’s Oculus Transit Hub: Not A Wow

I wanted to be dazzled by Santiago Calatrava‘s newly opened World Trade Center transportation hub. Instead, as I walked through this $4 billion project, I felt only a slight sense of awe. I wanted to be dazzled but I was instead only mildly impressed. In a more upbeat assessment, The Guardian says: ‘The Oculus is taller and longer than Grand Central Terminal – the yardstick by which every enclosed public space in New York is measured – and it’s the first space worthy of the comparison. Light floods on to its sumptuous grey and white marble floors. It feels vast. It feels grand. It might not be the successor to Grand Central, but it is at least a descendant.’ [photo: Spencer Pratt/Getty Images]
