What Do Drama Desks Mean For Tonys?

Not a whole hell of a lot, since “Hamilton,” eligible last year, wasn’t in the running at last night’s ceremony in New York. There was love for sure-to-win-the-Tony actors: Cynthia Erivo, Jessica Lange, Frank Langella. And there was love for Danny Burstein (pictured) from “Fiddler on the Roof.” He has a solid chance for the Best Actor/Musical Tony, though he’s up against Lin-Manuel Miranda and Leslie Odom, Jr. from “Hamilton.” The Drama Desks’ other big news: wins for the now-closed revival of “A View from the Bridge” could mean that it will win Best Revival/Play, and maybe best director/play (Ivo van Hove), though Joe Mantello could snare that trophy for the certain Best Play winner, “The Humans.”
