Meryl Streep As The Donald

I was there, last night, at the Public Theater‘s gala for Shakespeare in the Park. So, yes, I saw Meryl do the Donald, in a spoof, with Meryl’s bosom buddy Christine Baranski, of “Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” from “Kiss Me, Kate.” It was all too brief a comic turn and I wish I had video to share with you. The performance made me long for Meryl to do a musical onstage: in my dreams! I wish some scribe — Christopher Durang? — would expand this into a full-length musical: Mamie Gummer could at last get a good role — as Donald Trump, Jr. Her sister Grace could be Ivanka and Meryl and Baranski’s bosom buddy Tracey Ullman could be Ivana. I’m there! On second thought, maybe not Durang but Paul Rudnick should write this.
