A BBC Radio 2 documentary claims that the Queen is a huge fan of the saucy ukulele-strummer. When the George Formby Society offered to appoint her as their president, the Queen was, apparently, rather flattered. “I love George Formby,†she reportedly told her footman. “I know all his songs and can sing them.†To many, the idea of the ever-proper British monarch singing Formby’s innuendo-laden music hall numbers will come as a surprise; his lyrics were once labelled by the BBC as too shocking to broadcast.
