The Battle For Britain (i.e. Churchill)
John Lithgow (lower left) was surprisingly fine as Churchill last year in the first season of “The Crown.” Two more attempts at playing the old Bulldog are arriving this year: Brian Cox (right) in “Churchill,” which opens in early June; and Gary Oldman (left) in “Darkest Hour,” a Thanksgiving release. Other actors who have played the Prime Minister over the years include Albert Finney, Brendan Gleeson, Timothy Spall, Richard Burton, and, I’m not joking, Christian Slater, in a parody of historical films called “Churchill: The Hollywood Years.”
