Your Weekend: A Selective Guide

Movies: “Thor” looks like big stupid fun…Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird” is a lot better than you might expect. TV/Streaming: Finally caught “The Keepers” on Netflix: spooky…Netflix also has the latest Margaret (“Handmaid’s Tale”) Atwood adaptation: “Alias Grace.”…Friday brings “Present Laughter” on PBS — with Kevin Kline! Music: I grew up listening to the original song stylings of the pianist Roger Williams — and here they are again…I’m not listening to the new Kelly Clarkson album as much as I expected. Books: Emil Ferris’s “My Favorite Thing Is Monsters” is a startling graphic novel…The first half of Tolstoy’s “Resurrection” is supreme; the second half, Christian propaganda. Sports: Notre Dame football is looking stronger than expected, but a tough second-half schedule makes me doubt they’ll be in the playoff four. Finally: I don’t mind getting old, but why does everybody else have to be so young?
