Public Access Story: The Comedy Of Trash
Of course, it all started with Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey: deadpan, drearily acted filth like “Trash.” This low-down aesthetic found its ideal form in the public-access TV that washed across New York TV screens beginning in the 1970s. Robin Byrd (pictured) was, of course, the queen of the genre. But this article reminds us of all the other purveyors of soft-core porn. In an age when sex has become so deathly serious, public access helps restore the levity.
