Your Weekend: A Selective Guide

Movies: “A.X.L.” is about a robotic dog. Hmm. “John McEnroe: In the Realm of Perfection” is garnering good reviews. But what I want to see is “The Bookshop,” starring Emily Mortimer. TV/Streaming: PBS is still showing reruns on Fridays of “The Great British Baking Show” but the new season has already started — it’ll be on Netflix starting August 31. Sunday brings the finale of HBO’s “Sharp Objects.” Music: All the Aretha albums now on Amazon’s top-ten list are further proof that death is the best career move. Books: And, fueled by the movie hit “Crazy Rich Asians,” the Amazon top-ten books list has a lot of stuff by Kevin Kwan. Sports: At the rate the Yankees are enduring injuries the only player left standing at season’s end will be Giancarlo Stanton, which is fine with me. Finally: Only one more week of summer quiet in New York. Then the school kids are back terrorizing the town!
