Venice Festival Launches With “First Man”

The Venice Film Festival, the oldest film festival in the world, just celebrated its 75th opening with the world premiere of Damien Chazelle’s “First Man,” starring Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy. The movie received excellent reviews, although this phrase from David Rooney’s review in THR stuck out for me: ‘The extent to which mainstream audiences will respond to the lengthy film’s unfaltering restraint remains to be seen.’
