Four 2018 Books Deserving More Attention

James Wood kicks off this list: ‘Walter Kempowski’s epic novel “All For Nothing” (New York Review Books), which was published, in German, in 2006, and translated into English by the late and much-missed English translator Anthea Bell. What an amazing book this is: it was excitedly put into my hands by a writer friend, and I’ve been handing it on, in turn, to anyone who’ll listen to me.’
