Oscars 2019: My Thoughts

Thanks again to Rex Okpodu for his Oscar predictions (he did well: 19 of 24; I got 20). Otherwise, I thought the ceremony was not the best, not the worst Oscars ever. I liked: Julia Roberts (still the prettiest woman in the room); the speeches of the short-film winners and of the two women who won tech-design awards for “Black Panther”; the reactions on the faces of Richard Grant and Melissa McCarthy when Streisand came on; Spike Lee’s politically necessary speech; Olivia Colman’s very English, very funny acceptance; the grace and intelligence of Alfonso Cuaron; and the fact that “Green Book” won best picture in spite of the criticisms from those who found it too white, middle-class, and liberal.
