Yuh-Jung Youn’s Charming Speech

Yuh-Jung Youn won the Best Supporting Actress yesterday at the BAFTA awards in London. She gave a charming speech — calling the Brits “snobbish,” appealing to that nation’s joy in being insulted. The actress is moving ever closer to winning the similar award later this month at the Oscars. The Best Actress trophy, on the other hand, to go to virtually any of its five nominees. Frances McDormand won it last night at BAFTA for “Nomadland,” but if the Academy gives her a third Oscar in a category that in almost a century has only once given the statue to someone non-white — well, that would have me throwing something at my screen.
