Jodie Comer, Paul Mescal Win Oliviers

At last night’s Olivier Awards, devoted to West End theatre in London, Jodie Comer won Best Actress and Paul Mescal Best Actor respectively. (In plays, that is. Acting awards in musicals are separate.) Mescal, who was Oscar-nommed this year for his touching turn in “Aftersun,” won for his Stanley in “A Streetcar Named Desire.” Comer won for “Prima Facie,” a one-person show which also won the Olivier for Best Play. Comer is about to open in the same production on Broadway. I suspect she will win the Tony award in June for Best Actress, but her play won’t win here. That honor will go to Tom Stoppard’s “Leopoldstadt.”
