Keitel To Play “Jerry Springer”

Harvey Keitel will star in the New York premiere of “Jerry Springer — The Opera” in a two-night stint at Carnegie Hall in January. Keitel’s stage credits include a 1975 Rialto revival of “Death of a Salesman” and the Broadway run of “Hurlyburly” in 1984.

“Springer” has theoretically been on its way to New York since the 2003 musical, in which the titular trash TV host goes to hell, proved a hit on the West End. But a Broadway production planned for 2005 soon fell apart.

The Carnegie Hall concert staging, which will feature about 30 actors, is directed by Jason Moore (“Avenue Q”) and produced by “Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway” duo David J. Foster and Jared Geller, as well as Avalon Promotions.

No further casting for “Springer” has been nailed down. The musical plays Carnegie on Jan. 29 and 30.
