My Only Ted Haggard Thought
I’ve been avoiding comment on the whole Rev. Ted Haggard media-thon this week (Oprah today, Larry King tomorrow), because giving any more attention to the sexually confused, deeply deluded and (still) homophobic minister and his enabling wife seems to me to be exactly what we shouldn’t be doing. One thought, however: can any shrewd person doubt that the TV talkmeisters are showering Haggard with airtime not because his story is the least bit salacious or captivating at this point (even with the latest revelations) but because the director of the documentary providing Haggard with his platform is the daughter of a very powerful person — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi? As for the documentary that CNN is making: regardless of its point of view, for me it amounts to further overkill.
