Your Weekend: A Selective Guide

Movies: “Before I Wake” is a cheesy-looking horror movie. At the other end of the cinema spectrum is “Via Activa: The Spirit of Hannah Arendt.” Television: “The Simpsons” gives us “How Lisa Got Her Marge Back.” On Sunday, there’s no “Good Wife,” just two bloody hours of “Elementary.” Music: When I think of Cleopatra I think of Liz Taylor. But others think of the title of The Lumineers’ new album. Books: All this build-up to their HBO documentary on Saturday has made a best-seller of Anderson Cooper & Gloria Vanderbilt’s “The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son On Life, Love, and Loss. (By the way, why the hell didn’t Cooper give his mother first billing?) Sports: Can’t believe how much baseball I’ve watched the first week of the season. Blame it on the Mets. Finally: “From 20 to 40, my life was about love and sex. From 40 to 60, about career and power. After 60, it’s all about having a good bowel movement.” I don’t know who said that, but Maude agreed.
