Kate Winslet’s Oscar Odds
Academy Award blogs have been buzzing this month that Kate Winslet (pictured) might harm her chances this year because she has two Oscar-bait pics about to come out: “Revolutionary Road” and “The Reader.” But the Weinstein Co., which is releasing the latter, has just announced that Winslet will be put in the Best Supporting category, leaving her in the Best Actress spot for “Rev Road.” I’ve said it before but it bears repeating: with five previous Oscar noms and a deserved reputation as one of the best (if not the best) screen actresses of her generation, Winslet is definitely “due” for an Oscar win. And her handlers have already put the public-relations machine into high gear for her campaign: magazines (InStyle’s February cover, for example), TVÂ — the works.
