Another Startling Statistic

morrison200sUnlike digital-music piracy (see below), this statistic is, as they used to say in my high-school-economics class, “intuitively obvious“: library use is way up nationwide. Well, duh: who the hell can afford to shell out 15 dollars (paperback) or 30 dollars (hardcover) for a new book? At my local branch of the New York Public Library, you have to wait months right now to read a recent title such as “A Mercy,” by Toni Morrison (pictured).
