Your Weekend: LW Recommends

weekendMV5BMTM3NDU5NjY3NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzkyODYxMQ@@._V1._SY317_Television: Don’t miss the premiere of murder mystery “The Killing” on AMC and, if you’re in a Jeremy Irons mood, “The Borgias” on Showtime. There’s also the second episode of “Mildred Pierce” on HBO, although my purist friends have been bombarding me with texts and emails that quibble with it. If you’re feeling especially trashy, check out Britney Spears’ “I Am The Femme Fatale” on MTV. Movies: The latte crowd is dashing to “Source Code” but I’d rather hop with the kids to “Hop.” Books: I recommend Tea Obreht’s alarmingly accomplished first novel, “The Tiger’s Wife,” and Joseph Lelyveld’s banned-in-India biography of Gandhi, “Great Soul.” Must To Avoid: Elton John’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live,” with a cameo by Carmelo Anthony. Elton will never redeem himself in my eyes for taking blood money to sing at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding, and Anthony certainly isn’t helping the Knicks win: the arrow’s pointing in the other direction! Looking Ahead: Set your DVR now for next weekend’s kick-off of the “Upstairs Downstairs” remake on PBS.
